Free Design & Technologies co-design day in Bendigo

When: Monday 9 February, 9.30am - 3.30pm
Where: Bendigo Tech School
Cost: FREE

This one day, free intensive for Design & Technologies teachers in Bendigo and surrounding areas will help educators improve design education in their schools.
Creative Futures is a free, one day professional learning and co-design session for Design & Technologies teachers, hosted at Bendigo Tech School and delivered by DATTA Vic and Museums Victoria.
This workshop uses a place-based approach, with Bendigo’s landscape, industries and communities shaping the design challenges explored on the day. Teachers will work collaboratively to develop future-focused Design & Technologies teaching and learning programs grounded in local context.
Participants will explore the Creative Futures in Design and Technologies through the lens of "Extractive to Regenerative" and contribute to the development of a new DATTA Vic and Museums Victoria teaching resource, to be released free to all Victorian schools.
On the day, teachers will:
-
Learn how Museums Victoria collections and services can support teaching
-
Take part in a place based co-design session
-
Explore future-focused approaches to Design & Technologies
-
Map ideas to the Victorian Curriculum Design & Technologies processes
-
Connect local contexts to authentic design challenges
-
Co-design and pitch a new unit of work for statewide use

Feedback from our previous Creative Futures co-design day in Shepparton;
- I have revised class projects to focus on real world needs and users.
- I'll now be asking our students to identify needs within our school community, identify possible solutions and develop ideas for products that could solve this problem.
- Thank you. I was so lost. But I am starting head start feeling much more positive about the year ahead.
- Thankyou for allowing this event to happen. It was great.

This program is part of Museums Victoria's Creative Futures Annual Design Workshop. The project's aims to develop Middle Years programs, and facilitators work with participants to nurture new approaches to years 7 & 8 which will engage them in their first years of secondary school and encourage them to follow the subject through year 9 & 10 and onto VCE.
